For casual viewers, action movies are little more than a motion picture with little substance and story to show for. For real aficionados, however, a proper action film is pretty much gospel, what with its fast cars, smoking gun barrels, death-defying stunts, thundering explosions, and beautiful women.
For the real fans, it's important they know every key detail of every single scene of their favorite films while some fanatics are even privy to some of the best-kept behind-the-scenes deep cuts. For those die-hard followers, we have come up with some cool, little-known facts about some of the most popular action films of modern cinema.
The Original Cut of “First Blood” Made Lead Actor Sylvester Stallone Physically Sick
Imagine landing one of the biggest movies of your career, and once you’re done shooting, realize that the end product is a hot pile of steaming garbage. For Sylvester Stallone, this was exactly the case when he and his agent first sat down to watch the original cut of “First Blood.”
It is still remembered as one of the greatest action film franchises, and that might have something to do with the fact that the producers tried to outdo the previous iteration with every sequel of “First Blood.” The original cut, which was three and a half hours long, was so terrible and messy that it made both Stallone and his agent physically sick. Needless to say, the film had to undergo significant editing and changes before reaching theaters.
“The Predator” Originally Featured Jean-Claude Van Damme as the Alien Antagonist
It might be remembered as one of the most iconic sci/fi films featuring aliens today but when it began production, “The Predator” looked very different. When the motion picture finally started shooting, filmmakers had a very different image of what the predator would like, drawing inspiration from another film of its era called “Aliens.”
This means that initially, the predator was meant to look like a cross between a huge insect and a Xenomorph and was played by Jean-Claude Van Damme. Apparently, Van Damme disliked his new role and costume so much, he seemingly walked off the set and took the costume with him!
Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Said His Famous Catchphrase in Many Films After “Terminator”
When Arnold Schwarzenegger reassured the cop in the original “Terminator” film by saying, “I’ll be back,” few could have imagined that this would become one of the most iconic catchphrases in the action genre.
Interestingly enough, the line in the script originally said the words “I’ll come back” but there were some last-minute impromptu changes made during filming. Schwarzenegger has gone on to repeat this famous line in every single one of the sequels that came after the original “Terminator” film and even in some of his other film projects wherein his character shared a resemblance to the Terminator.
